Is Attitude A Choice?

When I got out of rehab (decades ago now), I learned to focus on the positive, keep moving forward, and that whatever I put my attention on grows. (“Keep your mind out of the gutter, Lauren.”)

I keep that attitude to this day.

Interviewing people for my podcast, 52 Weeks of Hope, I hear about the negativity that’s out there.

Is the problem that people aren’t discussing what’s going on inside? I mean what’s really going on?

I read about TikTok-ers bashing someone for revealing her truth. Her actual difficulties going through divorce, money struggles, you know, life stuff. We all go through it.

Luckily, others supported her elsewhere which allows more to also talk about what they go through, too.

We relate to each other through our stories. None of us goes through life unscathed.

I still believe that attitude is a choice. Each day you choose how to feel.

I may just be lucky. Since the day long ago when I got out of rehab, I feel supported discussing what’s going on with me and then helping others do the same.

I also know that putting one foot in front of another and moving in the direction of my dream or goal, even a little bit, will change my attitude. I can’t sit in a corner and pray or hope my attitude will change. It takes action on my part.

God doesn't drive parked cars. I’ve got to move. Take some kind of action.

Even if I don’t want to get up and move, I have to, because that’s how I’m going to ultimately feel better.

What about you? Do you think attitude’s a choice? Do you think you can express how you feel, get up, get moving, and change your attitude?

I’d love to hear!
